A feast is the Gamemakers' answer to a lull. When the arena goes quiet and the tributes still alive have settled into avoiding one another, Claudius Templesmith comes over the loudspeakers and announces that something will be waiting at a fixed place and a fixed time, usually the Cornucopia. Sometimes that something is a banquet. Sometimes it is one stale loaf. Sometimes it is whatever each remaining tribute most needs and has no other way of getting. The food is never the point. The point is that everyone left alive now knows exactly where everyone else will be.
