District 12's female tribute for the 73rd Hunger Games came out of the Seam, as did the boy reaped with her, and Haymitch Abernathy mentored the pair of them. What the Capitol took away from that year was a matter of table manners: Effie Trinket complained afterward that the two of them had eaten with their hands like savages, a remark that says a good deal more about how little food reaches the Seam than it does about either child.
