Baker

A baker makes and sells bread and, for anyone who can afford it, cakes and pastries. In the poorer districts that second half rarely applies. Most District 12 families bake their own coarse loaves out of tessera grain and buy from the bakery only when there is something worth marking. A baker may also take payment in trade rather than coin, which is how a squirrel shot cleanly through the eye turns into a loaf of good bread. Bakers tend to know other districts' breads as well, since every district has its own: a green tinted fish shaped roll from District 4, a crescent studded with seeds from District 11.
