74th Hunger Games arena

The arena built for the 74th Hunger Games is large enough that crossing it takes a tribute several days. The twenty-four of them rise into it on metal plates set in a ring around the Cornucopia, on an open plain of hard packed dirt, and the mines under those plates stay live for a sixty-second count. Past the plain there is forest, a lake, a stream, a pond and scattered pools. There is ordinary game in the woods for anyone with the skill and the tools to take it, and berry bushes throughout, though not every berry on them is worth eating. Every water source has to be treated with iodine before it is safe to drink.
