50th Hunger Games arena
The arena of the 50th Hunger Games, laid out in the shape of an eye with the Cornucopia as its pupil and a flowered meadow as the iris.
The arena built for the 50th Hunger Games was laid out in the shape of an eye. The Cornucopia sat at the centre as the pupil, ringed by a green meadow scattered with flowers that formed the iris, and beyond the meadow the ground rose through woodland toward a mountain. A dense hedge maze, cut into a wide V, closed off the northern edge and kept tributes from wandering past the boundary. It is a deliberately beautiful arena, and almost nothing in it is safe to touch: the streams run poisoned, the fruit on the bushes is lethal, and rainwater is the only water a tribute can drink.
