For the third task of the Triwizard Tournament, on 24 June, a maze of hedges was grown across the Hogwarts Quidditch pitch. The object was to reach the Triwizard Cup at the centre, past obstacles and creatures set in the way. A sphinx guards one of the routes: a champion may attempt its riddle and pass if the answer is right, or decline and go round another way, but a wrong answer means an attack.
