Time Room

The Time Room is a chamber in the Department of Mysteries, on the ninth level of the Ministry of Magic in London, where the Unspeakables study time and everything bound up with it. A door leads from it to the Hall of Prophecy, the study of time sitting close to the business of predicting what is to come. The room is filled with a dancing, diamond-sparkling light thrown by a huge crystal bell jar at the far end. Clocks stand on every surface, large and small, grandfather and carriage, hung between the bookcases and ranged along the desks, so the room is never free of ticking. Time-Turners of many sizes sit on shelves inside a tall glass-fronted case against one wall. The way through is a narrow passage between the desks, with small offices opening off the main chamber and another door at the far end.
