Salazar Slytherin
Salazar Slytherin is counted among the four finest witches and wizards of his time, the founder whose name Slytherin House carries and whose serpent serves as its symbol.
Professor Binns tells the class that Salazar Slytherin raised the castle together with Godric Gryffindor, Helga Hufflepuff and Rowena Ravenclaw, far from a world that fears magic. In his account Slytherin comes to want only pupils from all-magic families, clashes with Gryffindor over it and walks away from the school. A tale Binns scorns says he hid a chamber that only his true heir can open. Hermione says he is famous for speaking to snakes.
