Ronald Weasley is a tall, freckled, red-haired boy, the youngest son of a big wizarding family, who shares a train compartment with Harry on the way to Hogwarts and is sorted into Gryffindor.
On the Hogwarts Express, Ron gloomily explains that he has five older brothers to live up to, and that nothing he owns is new: his robes, his wand and Scabbers, a fat gray rat who hardly ever wakes, all came down from them. He and Harry share a heap of sweets from the trolley while Ron explains Chocolate Frog cards and Quidditch, and he dreads being put in Slytherin.
