Ronald Weasley

Ron Weasley boards the Hogwarts Express for the first time in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and shares a compartment with Harry Potter, the start of Harry's first real friendship. The youngest son of a large wizarding family, Ron arrives at school trailing five older brothers and their reputations, with a hand-me-down wand, secondhand robes, and a strong feeling that everything worth doing in the family has already been done by someone else. He is sorted into Gryffindor alongside Harry. Freckled, red-haired, and tall for his age, Ron brings Harry into the everyday texture of the wizarding world, from Quidditch talk to the food at the feasts, and shows a real gift for wizard chess, learned on a battered old set that came down through the family.
