Remus Lupin is the wizard filling the one open post at Hogwarts, Defence Against the Dark Arts, a pale, tired man in shabby, much-darned robes who sleeps through most of the train ride.
When the train halts in the dark, he wakes at last and holds up a handful of flames, alert and wary, just before a hooded figure fills the compartment doorway. Afterwards he breaks up a slab of chocolate for everyone, insisting it will help, and names the creature a Dementor of Azkaban. His first lesson is a practical one that sends the class against a boggart.
