Portkey
Introduced by way of an old boot in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, a Portkey is an everyday object enchanted to whisk everyone touching it to a set place at a set moment.
A Portkey is an ordinary-looking object enchanted to transport anyone touching it to a set destination, such as when Harry travels to the Quidditch World Cup by way of a mouldy old boot on a hilltop. The unremarkable appearance is the point: an enchanted bit of rubbish attracts no Muggle attention while it waits. At the appointed moment the Portkey activates, and travellers feel a sudden hooking pull behind the navel before the world dissolves into a howl of colour and wind and deposits them, usually in a heap, at the far end. Portkeys suit groups, travellers who cannot Apparate, underage wizards among them, and journeys where brooms or fireplaces cannot serve, and their creation is regulated by the Ministry of Magic.
