Opal Necklace

For a time this necklace of opals sat on display at Borgin and Burkes in Knockturn Alley, behind a warning label, and it is said to have killed nineteen Muggle owners before it got there. The curse on it spreads the instant it touches skin, and how far it goes depends on how much contact was made. A brush against a small patch of bare skin is enough to drop the victim into a blank trance, lift them several feet off the ground and then throw them into screaming, thrashing agony; even treated at once, recovery takes about six months at St Mungo's. Holding it barehanded, or putting it on, kills, perhaps instantly. The only safe way to carry it is never to touch it directly, through cloth or wrapping paper.
