Neville Longbottom is a round-faced boy, raised by his gran, who keeps losing his toad on the way to Hogwarts and lands in Gryffindor after the Sorting Hat takes a long time to decide.
Hermione helps him search the train for the missing toad. At the Sorting he falls over before he reaches the stool and then runs off still wearing the hat. He tells his new housemates that his family thought him all Muggle for years, until a drop from an upstairs window at age eight sent him bouncing clear across the garden to the road.
