Morsmordre is the incantation of a dark charm that throws the Dark Mark, the skull-and-serpent sign of Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters, into the sky. Voldemort is said to have devised it himself. During the first war it was a signature: the Death Eaters would cast it above a house where they had killed, both to claim the attack and to put the fear of them into everyone else. The knowledge of how to cast it never spread beyond the innermost circle, so the Mark was not seen at all after Voldemort's fall, since anyone who had talked their way out of prison by denying they were a Death Eater would have given themselves away by producing it. An Eradication Spell will clear it from the sky.
