Ministry of Magic

The Ministry of Magic is the government of the wizarding world, the body that keeps magical Britain running and hidden. Its chief task is secrecy: making sure the non-magical population never learns that witches and wizards live all around them. Headed by the Minister for Magic, the Ministry regulates magical law, oversees the practice of magic, and manages the countless small collisions between the two worlds, from enchanted artefacts left in Muggle hands to creatures that wander where they are not meant to be. Other countries maintain ministries of their own, and the term covers wizarding governments generally, though the British Ministry in London is the most prominent.
