Malfoy Manor is the Wiltshire seat of the Malfoy family, a wealthy pure-blood house whose son Draco meets Harry Potter in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. The wizard Armand Malfoy arrived in Britain with William the Conqueror's Norman army and was granted a prime piece of Wiltshire land for shady and almost certainly magical services to the king, and ten centuries of his descendants have lived on it since. The family added to the estate over hundreds of years by annexing neighbouring Muggle land, and royal favour filled the house with Muggle treasures and works of art. That expansion stopped with the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy, when the Malfoys hotly denied any Muggle connection in order to keep their standing in the newly formed Ministry of Magic.
