Magical Theory is the study of the nature of magic itself, of the laws and mechanisms that make a spell work at all. It has been part of wizarding academia since well before the late nineteenth century, and it is taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and at other established wizarding schools. Adalbert Waffling is the name most attached to the modern subject. His book Magical Theory is said to cover everything a witch or wizard will ever need to know about what makes spells work, and generations of students have learned the groundwork from it.
