Magical Law Enforcement Patrol

Ordinary police work in the wizarding world falls to the Magical Law Enforcement Patrol, also called the Magical Law Enforcement Squad, a subdivision of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement at the British Ministry of Magic; the more specialised magical crime goes to the Auror Office instead. Trained Hit Wizards belong to the squad and are sent out on the difficult arrests, and applications from prospective Hit Wizards and Witches go to Alastor Gumboil in room 919. To be taken on, an applicant must be seventeen or over, hold five or more O.W.L.s including Defence Against the Dark Arts, and not be of a nervous disposition. The post pays a starting salary of 700 Galleons a month and comes with a Ministry broomstick and a standing bed at St Mungo's.
