Legilimency

Legilimency is the art of navigating the layers of another person's mind and reading correctly what is found there, and Harry Potter first hears the word in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Anyone who practises it is called a Legilimens. Muggles might call the art mind reading, a term its practitioners consider naive, since it turns on interpretation rather than plain overhearing. Its counterpart is Occlumency, the discipline of closing a mind against a Legilimens. A few magical creatures manage it as well, among them the Wampus cat, and wands of silver lime have a reputation for suiting those who take the art up.
