International Confederation of Wizards

The International Confederation of Wizards, also called the International Federation of Warlocks, is the body that brings the world's wizarding governments together. Its head holds the title of Supreme Mugwump, which appears on a Chocolate Frog card in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. Pierre Bonaccord was the first wizard appointed to that office, and his appointment drew an immediate protest: the magical community of Liechtenstein, then plagued by mountain trolls, objected to his wish to ban troll hunting and grant trolls rights, and refused to attend the first conference. The Confederation instituted the International Statute of Wizarding Secrecy in 1692, settling how the wizarding world hides itself, and added Clause 73 in 1750 to set out each national ministry's duty of concealment and the penalties for a breach.
