Gobstones is a wizarding game close to the Muggle game of marbles, played with stones that squirt a foul smelling liquid into the face of whoever loses a point. Sets turn up in the Diagon Alley shop windows in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, one of them solid gold. Neither the game nor its players enjoy much of a reputation, which its devotees tend to resent; when a reader wrote to the Daily Prophet complaining that the paper gave the sport no coverage, the editor replied that most wizards find it deeply boring.
