Gilderoy Lockhart is a wavy-haired celebrity wizard, author of almost the whole Hogwarts reading list, who announces at a crowded Diagon Alley signing that he will teach Defence Against the Dark Arts.
Mrs. Weasley keeps his guide to household pests on the mantelpiece and turns pink when Fred says she fancies him. At Flourish and Blotts a queue of witches stretches to his table at the rear, where he sits among winking portraits of himself dressed in forget-me-not blue. Spotting Harry, he pulls him up for a photograph for the Daily Prophet and presents him with his complete works.
