A small, half-ruined house in woodland outside Little Hangleton, home to the Gaunt family.
The Gaunt Shack stands in woodland outside the village of Little Hangleton, and Harry Potter sees it in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince through a memory viewed in a Pensieve. It is the home of the Gaunt family: Marvolo Gaunt, his son Morfin and his daughter Merope, the last of a line descended from Salazar Slytherin. The house is small and half ruined, thick with filth and rusted pots, and only Merope makes any attempt to keep it in order. A dead snake is nailed to the front door, and the family speak Parseltongue to one another. The Ministry official Bob Ogden calls there to question Morfin about his habit of using magic in front of the villagers.
