Fred Weasley is one of Ron's red-haired older twin brothers, a joker who insists to his own mother that he is George as they head for the Hogwarts train.
He and George help Harry stow his trunk aboard, and it is Fred who tells the family the boy really is Harry Potter, having asked and seen the lightning scar. He warns Ron that the Sorting hurts and involves wrestling a troll, and Ron suspects a joke, rightly, since the test is only a hat.
