The glittering powder that opens a fireplace, turning the flames emerald green so a traveller can step in and state a destination.
The Weasleys keep theirs in a flowerpot on the kitchen mantelpiece, and each traveller takes a pinch. Before his first try, Harry gets a stream of advice: speak clearly, keep elbows tucked in and eyes shut against the soot, do not fidget, or he may tumble out of the wrong fireplace, and do not climb out too early. Ron explains that his parents use it and the car only because their children are too young to Apparate.
