Floo powder

Floo powder is a glittering magical powder that opens the fireplaces of the Floo Network to travel, and Harry Potter uses it for the first time in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. A handful thrown into a lit grate turns the flames emerald green and harmless and sends them leaping higher; the traveller steps in and states the destination loudly and clearly, which the ash, the heat and a certain amount of panic make harder than it sounds. Say it wrong and you arrive somewhere else, since a handful works only once. The advice is to shut your eyes against the soot, keep your elbows tucked in and refrain from fidgeting. Travel this way is faster than a broomstick and slower than Apparition, and unlike Apparition it needs no licence. The price has held at two Sickles a scoop for a hundred years, and most households keep a stock in a pot on the mantelpiece.
