Floo Network

The Floo Network links wizarding fireplaces across Britain, and Harry Potter travels by it for the first time in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. A traveller throws a handful of Floo powder into the grate, steps into the emerald green flames and states the destination loudly and clearly, which the ash, the heat and a certain amount of panic make harder than it sounds. Other hearths rush past too fast to make out along the way, and it pays to keep the elbows tucked in. Muggle homes are not connected unless a temporary arrangement is made directly by the Ministry of Magic. The network carries objects as well as people, and a witch or wizard can put their head alone into the fire to talk with someone at another hearth.
