Dumbledore's Army
Formed in secret at Hogwarts in 1995, the D.A. is a group of students who meet in the Room of Requirement to learn the practical defensive magic their Defence Against the Dark Arts lessons refuse to teach them.
Dumbledore's Army, or the D.A., is a student group formed at Hogwarts during the 1995 to 1996 school year. Dolores Umbridge, appointed that year to teach Defence Against the Dark Arts, confines her lessons to textbook theory and forbids her classes to practise a single spell, so Hermione Granger proposes that students learn defensive magic on their own with Harry Potter teaching them. Around two dozen students from Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw meet the three of them at the Hog's Head in Hogsmeade to hear the idea, and the group settles on its name at that first meeting. Since the Ministry has since banned every student society, the D.A. gathers in secret in the Room of Requirement, and each member carries an enchanted Galleon that shows the date and time of the next session.
