Draught of Peace

For all that it settles anxiety and agitation, the Draught of Peace is a good deal harder to make than that description suggests. Powdered moonstone, syrup of hellebore, powdered porcupine quills and powdered unicorn horn go in, in an exact order and in exact amounts, with seven stirs clockwise and seven back; the flame must be lowered before the hellebore, and the potion left to simmer seven minutes. Done right it is turquoise blue and gives off a silvery vapour. Done wrong the results vary widely: green sparks, dark grey steam, a sulphurous stink, a set consistency like cement, or a batch unstable enough to explode and set the brewer's robes alight. Too much of any ingredient will put whoever drinks it into a deep and possibly permanent sleep. Hogwarts sets it to fifth-years.
