Dobby
Dobby is the house-elf who appears in Harry's bedroom, defying his unnamed masters to warn Harry away from Hogwarts, punishing himself for every word.
He turns up with large bat-like ears, green eyes as big as tennis balls and an old pillowcase for clothes, and he bursts into tears when Harry invites him to sit, since no wizard has ever treated him as an equal. When Harry will not promise to stay away from school, Dobby sends Aunt Petunia's pudding floating to the ceiling and smashing to the floor in the middle of the Dursleys' dinner party, then vanishes with a crack. Fred Weasley guesses that someone sent him as a joke.
