The Council of Magical Law is a judicial body of the British Ministry of Magic, seen in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. A judge presides over it, with a panel of members and a jury alongside, and it rules on criminal cases and weighs information handed to it by convicted prisoners. It answers to the Wizengamot, the wizarding high court, and keeps guards of its own. Its hearings are short. The members are shown the evidence in advance, and the accused is brought in only to speak before judgement is passed. Onlookers with no part in a case are sometimes admitted to the chamber.
