Cauldron

A cauldron is the wizarding world's standard brewing vessel, and it sits on the equipment list every new Hogwarts student receives in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, which specifies pewter, standard size two. Heated over an open flame, a cauldron holds whatever a potion demands, and it doubles as luggage: first years commonly carry the rest of their supplies inside one. Shop signs in Diagon Alley advertise them in copper, brass, pewter and silver, in self-stirring and collapsible models, though school rules keep students to the plain kind. Muggles once brewed and cooked in much the same pots before moving on to stoves, and the cauldron's place in witchcraft's public image is one of the few points on which both worlds agree.
