Borgin and Burkes

Borgin and Burkes is the best-known shop in Knockturn Alley, the crooked side street off Diagon Alley where the wizarding world's shadier trade happens, and Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets lands Harry there by accident when a Floo powder journey goes one grate too far. Established in the nineteenth century by Messrs Borgin and Burke, the firm deals in unusual and ancient artefacts, offering discreet valuations for old wizarding families, and its stock runs from cursed jewellery and human-looking bones to a withered Hand of Glory that gives light only to its holder. The oily Mr Borgin flatters his customers at the counter and despises them once the doorbell stops ringing. Respectable wizards do not shop there, or at least prefer not to be seen doing so.
