The venom of a Basilisk is among the most poisonous and corrosive substances there is. It kills in a little over a minute at best, and the minute is not a peaceful one: the victim goes drowsy and their vision blurs before the end. It is one of the very few poisons a bezoar will not answer. It also keeps its potency for a remarkably long time, still lethal in the fang of a Basilisk that has been dead for years.
