Barty Crouch Junior is a figure from the recent past in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, the son of Bartemius Crouch Senior, a senior Ministry of Magic official with a reputation for severity. The son's story reaches Harry secondhand, as older wizards recall the bleak period after the first war against Voldemort. The account holds that the younger Crouch was arrested in the wave of trials that followed the war, convicted alongside accused Dark wizards in a case that shook his father's standing, and sentenced to Azkaban. The same account holds that he did not live long there, and that his death in the prison closed one of the most discussed episodes of those years.
