Australia is a country made up of the Australian mainland, the island of Tasmania and a great many smaller islands, lying between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Wizards of an earlier age knew it as the Antipodes. Quidditch is thought to have taken hold there in the eighteenth century, helped along by the vast empty stretches of the outback, which make ideal ground for pitches well out of Muggle sight. The country has its own national side and national stadium, and its league takes in teams from elsewhere in Oceania as well. Antipodean players are known for speed and showmanship.
