Albus Dumbledore
Albus Dumbledore is the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, in Hagrid's words the greatest the school has ever had.
Albus Dumbledore turns up on Privet Drive so suddenly and silently that he might have sprung out of the ground. He is tall, thin and very old, with silver hair and a beard long enough to tuck in at the belt. He wears long robes, a purple cloak trailing on the ground and high-heeled boots with buckles. His light blue eyes sparkle behind half-moon spectacles, and his long, crooked nose looks as if it has been broken at least twice.
From inside his cloak he takes a Put-Outer, a silver thing like a cigarette lighter, and clicks it twelve times until every street lamp is dark. He sits down on the wall beside a tabby cat and greets it as Professor McGonagall, and when he turns to smile at it, a woman sits in its place. He offers her a lemon drop, a Muggle sweet he is fond of, and tells her he has spent eleven years urging people to call Voldemort by his proper name.
