The magical glass eye that replaced the one the Auror Alastor Moody lost in the first war.
Alastor Moody lost an eye in a clash with Death Eaters during the first war against Lord Voldemort, and what replaced it is a magical one of glass, made to fit him. It moves independently of his other eye, swivelling about in the socket, and it sees things an ordinary eye cannot, including a person standing under an Invisibility Cloak. It is not maintenance-free: if it sticks part way round, Moody takes it out and cleans it in a glass of water.
