Jamal is a giant hammerhead shark, some 17 feet long and heavily built. His body has the anatomy of an ordinary hammerhead, if an oversized one, but he breathes air rather than water even though he has gills.
On land he gets around by flopping, which he does well enough, though it is neither quick nor quiet. For speed and stealth he rides in a voice-controlled automaton harness, a frame of eight double-jointed legs big enough to carry him.
Jamal speaks with elaborate politeness and often refers to himself by name, apologizing at great length whenever something goes wrong.
