Donut

Donut, in full Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk, is a tortoiseshell Persian cat, fluffy and flat-faced, and worth more than Carl earns in a year. She belongs to Beatrice, whose whole family raises and shows Persians, and she goes to a cat show almost every weekend.

She wins nearly every time she is entered. One room of the two-bedroom apartment in Seattle is given over entirely to her Best-in-Show and Best-in-Breed ribbons, her trophies and dozens of framed photos of her looking fuzzy and annoyed in front of a judge. With Beatrice away in the Bahamas and the couple split up, Carl has promised to look after her until Beatrice returns.
