Boss
Bosses are the dungeon's ranked monsters, sorted into tiers that include Neighborhood, Borough, Province, Country and Floor.
Boss battles come with their own fanfare. The game's voice booms over a real loudspeaker like a Monster Truck rally host. The lair locks behind glowing silver bars, and music starts. Everything freezes while mugshots of the crawlers appear beside a huge Versus, followed by the boss's title in metallic, blood-spattered lettering and a description. The freeze lifts when the description ends.
Every boss drops persistent loot that any crawler can pick up, and its corpse stays where it lies. A Neighborhood Boss leaves a neighborhood map. The crawlers who kill a boss also earn an achievement plus a Boss Box, which is bronze for the Neighborhood tier and silver for Borough, along with a star after their names in every notification. Province, Country and Floor bosses are absent from the first three levels, and most boss battles on the early floors allow no running away.
