The Water of Life is a poisonous blue liquid, and the Bene Gesserit use it to raise a Sister to Reverend Mother. To anyone untrained in prana and bindu body control the smallest amount of it is lethal, and the dying is done in great agony. Among the Fremen the same ritual runs on a shorter clock: it is performed when a Sayyadina is dying and a replacement must take her genetic memory before she goes, and the woman is chosen from inside the tribe.
