The Spacing Guild is an interstellar shipping and trade conglomerate, and one leg of the political tripod that holds up the Great Convention. It was the second of the mental and physical training schools founded after the Butlerian Jihad, after the Bene Gesserit, and its monopoly on space travel and interplanetary banking is the event the Imperial Calendar counts from, year 1 AG. That monopoly hardened early, around the time the leaders of the religions met to compile the Orange Catholic Bible, a meeting both the Guild and the Sisterhood encouraged. How the Guild came by faster than light travel is not recorded, only that it held the power throughout the Corrino Empire, a stretch remembered afterwards as the Guild Peace.
