Ornithopter
The thopter, commonest small aircraft of the Imperium, flying on jets with wings that beat like a bird's and carrying six at a time.
The ornithopter, or thopter, is the commonest small craft in the Imperium: six passengers, or nine with the back seats taken out. Most of them work in atmosphere, moving people between cities and continents and carrying light cargo, though some types will manage a short run through space. They fly on jet propulsion, with wings that mimic the movement of a bird to hold altitude and to manoeuvre. Military versions carry lasguns, sometimes small missiles or repeating maula pistols. Nearly everywhere in the Imperium a thopter is fitted with shields, and on Arrakis it is not. A carryall is essentially a very large ornithopter.
