The thopter, commonest small aircraft of the Imperium, flying on jets with wings that beat like a bird's.
The ornithopter, or thopter, is the commonest small craft in the Imperium. Most of them work in atmosphere, moving people between cities and continents and carrying light cargo. They fly on jet propulsion, with wings that mimic the movement of a bird to hold altitude and to manoeuvre. Military versions carry lasguns. Nearly everywhere in the Imperium a thopter is fitted with shields, and on Arrakis it is not.
