Old Duke

A public entertainer at heart, the nineteenth Atreides Duke of Caladan had a passion for bullfighting, and bullfighting is what killed him. He was impaled on a bull's horns. The bull was killed afterwards and its head mounted in the dining hall at Castle Caladan, the Old Duke's bloodstains laminated onto it, with an oil painting of him alongside. He brought Thufir Hawat, Mentat and Master of Assassins, into the service of House Atreides, and Hawat stayed on through the generations that followed, which says something about the man who hired him. Those who knew both said Leto's son took after the Old Duke more than after his own father.
