Muad'Dib is the subject of the Princess Irulan's writings, among them the Manual of Muad'Dib, a guide to the study of his life.

Muad'Dib was born on Caladan in the 57th year of Shaddam IV, the Padishah Emperor, according to the Princess Irulan. He lived there for his first fifteen years. Even so, Irulan's Manual of Muad'Dib warns against being misled by that, and insists that his place is the planet Arrakis, the world called Dune.

In the Manual, the study of his life starts from a lesson that every Bene Gesserit sister is said to know: a beginning calls for the greatest care in getting the balances right. The same work names the Harkonnens as his mortal enemies, and holds that he cannot be understood without them, any more than truth can be seen without knowing falsehood. Irulan's writings on him also include Muad'Dib, Family Commentaries.
