Gurney Halleck
Gurney Halleck was the Warmaster of House Atreides under Duke Leto Atreides, a ruthless yet deeply loyal warrior who trained young Paul alongside Thufir Hawat and Duncan Idaho, and was as likely to reach for his baliset as his blade.
Gurney Halleck oversees Paul's combat training at Castle Caladan, drilling him in shield fighting and bladed weapons in the castle's training room. In one session he deliberately pushes the exercise harder than usual, intending to prepare Paul for real danger and to drive home how serious the threats ahead of the household are. These workouts continue right up to the eve of the move; Paul arrives at a lesson with Dr. Yueh fresh from one of them.
Halleck sits with the Duke's inner circle in the last days on Caladan, alongside Thufir Hawat, Duncan Idaho and Lady Jessica, as House Atreides prepares to leave its ancestral world for Arrakis.
