Giedi Prime
Giedi Prime is the industrial homeworld of House Harkonnen, a planet of factories, arenas and conscripted labour under a government that runs on fear.
House Harkonnen has held Giedi Prime for generations and made it over in its own image. Heavy industry covers the planet, city after city of factories, and so little vegetation is left that photosynthesis there runs low. The arenas are the other half of the arrangement, putting on spectacle for the population, gladiatorial combat included. Most people on the planet live meagrely, many worked as slave labour on the machines of heavy industry, and the Harkonnen military is conscripted straight out of that population. Those troops fight well in part because a man raised that way has somewhere to put it.
