Reverend Mother Gaius Helen Mohiam trained the Lady Jessica at the Bene Gesserit school on Wallach IX, and two decades on she serves as Truthsayer to Padishah Emperor Shaddam Corrino IV. Before House Atreides leaves for Arrakis she comes to put the Duke's son to the Sisterhood's test, a hand shut in a box with the gom jabbar at his neck, the trial by which the Bene Gesserit satisfy themselves that they are dealing with a human being. She is a bulky woman with hair like matted spiderweb, a leathery face, sunken cheeks, an overlong nose and pale gums around silver metal teeth.
