Duncan Idaho

Duncan Idaho was born on Giedi Prime and taken out of Harkonnen bondage by the Old Duke, who brought him into Atreides service on Caladan once he had seen how differently that House ruled. He trained on Ginaz and came back a Swordmaster, one of the Duke's right-hand men alongside Gurney Halleck and the Mentat Thufir Hawat. Duke Leto handed him the job of teaching Paul hand-to-hand combat and military strategy. Against Gurney he fought with the better finesse and still lost six bouts in ten, which between the two of them gave the boy a rounded education. He kept a hard watch on threats inside the household as well as outside it, and distrusted the Lady Jessica on the reasoning that a Bene Gesserit in the Duke's bed was a scheme waiting to surface.
