Thinny

A thinny is a place where the world has grown thin. It gives itself away by sound first, a warbling hum that is horrible to hear and pulls at whoever hears it all the same, as though the noise itself were saying come in. It can put out appendages to snare whatever strays too close. Not everything a thinny takes is eaten: a person may pass instead into an empty space and go on there, joining what the thinny in Eyebolt Canyon calls the hum of the growing cavity at the centre of the universe. They have become more common since the world moved on.
